Tom, Age 57
Total Knee Replacement
Over the years, Tom had experienced a long history of knee problems dating back to high school football. Later injuries followed from recreational and work-related activities as a police officer. He underwent numerous surgeries to his knee including an anterior cruciate ligament replacement followed by six more arthroscopic procedures. Finally, his doctor told him his knee was simply “bone on bone” and ultimately he would require a knee replacement.
Tom lived with his “bone on bone” knee joint for over one and a half years with significant pain and inability to continue performing the daily recreational and work related activities to his full capacity. His doctor had tried a course of injections that would help prolong the inevitable total knee replacement surgery but, eventually, Tom underwent the procedure to alleviate his symptoms.
Following his Total Knee Replacement, Tom’s joint pain was gone and he began a course of aggressive home physical therapy for two weeks. At this point he was able to transfer to outpatient physical therapy for his continued rehabilitation. He chose Blaser Physical Therapy where he had received excellent care in the past.
“They listen to you as a patient, ask what your goals are and provide a holistic approach communicating closely with your physician. What makes Blaser Physical Therapy different is the family atmosphere and how comfortable they make you feel.”
Tom’s Results
The physical therapists at Blaser Physical Therapy designed a comprehensive and individualized rehabilitation program for Tom. They customized strength and stability exercises to account for the manual activities he would be returning to on his job. Tom was very happy to regain his range of motion, strength, stability, and overall function. By the end of rehabilitation, Tom was able to return to his full duties at work as Special Security Officer in a county high school and return to the activities he loves outside of work without the pain and strength limitations he had experienced pre-operatively.
“Everyone at Blaser Physical Therapy was extremely professional and knowledgeable. I would not hesitate to return to them if I ever needed physical therapy in the future.”
